Permitting Horror Stories 3
Let our Permit Angels help you avoid frustration
Jim stood at the planning counter, his frustration palpable. He was asking the person behind the counter why the planning approval was taking so long because every week for the last 16 weeks he’d been waiting for an approval or even a denial letter for that matter, on his project but so far has gotten nothing. No approval, no denial, no nothing but, “Still no answer sir, sorry.”
Jim was frustratingly telling the clerk that for every week that went by he’s losing thousands of dollars in income because no one can tell him when his project was going to get approved, if it was even going to get approved. He was explaining to her that he was tired of the bureaucracy and needed answers. He’d been asking for answers for months but instead has been met with obstacle after obstacle and excuse after excuse, and of course he was at his wits end with the whole situation.
He asked and asked what did he have to do to move his project forward and get either a denial or an approval but of course, the staff person couldn’t give him any answers. Jim left the counter disgruntled and burst out crying, silencing the entire building. It was nothing more uncomfortable than seeing a grown man cry. He was literally standing next to the counter balling.
Since one of our Permit Angels happened to be in the building helping another client get the proper permit approvals, she calmly walked over to Jim, introduced herself, told her who she was and told him how we could help him. He hired her on the spot once he had calmed down a bit, handed her all of his paperwork as he had been carrying everything around week after week for months just in case anything was missing if he got a denial letter.
She took his information, reviewed his case documents, got back in the line and did her angelic magic to not only get the client who she was originally down there for approved but Jim approved as well. His nightmare was over. Due to her position, our permit angel was able to find out that the delay was because someone had improperly filed his application and it wasn’t where it was supposed to be.
Jim had done everything right, just someone in the office had done something wrong. Lots of apologies, happy tears and thankful hugs later, Jim was able to move his project forward, relieved that our permit angel had been in the right place at the right time. He told our permit angel that he just knew that he couldn’t survive another week without this permit being approved and that his tears were giving up tears as he felt like his whole world was just going to keep falling apart.
Luckily for him, we were in the right place at the right time.
